Where To Sell Your iPhone 5s, 5c and 5

All signs say Apple will introduce the iPhone 6 next week and start selling it by the end of the month. If you want to sell an old iPhone, the time is now.

You can get a great return on your device by selling through EBay or Craigslist, but if you don't want to deal with strangers and would rather use an automated system, there are several websites you can use. Some services accept any kind of iPhone, but if you're selling an iPhone 5, 5c or 5s in good condition, there's a chance you could get enough money to cover the purchase of an iPhone 6 (the base price is typically $199 with a two-year phone service contract). Here's where to go:

Twitter Begins Testing In-Tweet 'Buy' Button

Starting today, a small number of Twitter users in the U.S. will see a purchase-enabling "buy" button in tweets from certain artists, brands and non-profit organizations. Twitter is launching the test as part of its effort to grow revenues, especially via mobile channels.
"This is an early step in our building functionality into Twitter to make shopping from mobile devices convenient and easy, hopefully even fun," Twitter group product manager Tarun Jain wrote on the company's blog. "Users will get access to offers and merchandise they can’t get anywhere else and can act on them right in the Twitter apps for Android and iOS; sellers will gain a new way to turn the direct relationship they build with their followers into sales."

Apple Said to Be Using Tokenization Technology to Secure Mobile Payments Service

Apple may be integrating tokenization technology in its forthcoming mobile payments solution, reports Bank Innovation. Citing sources close to the matter, the report notes that the company will look to utilize token technology to address security and fraud concerns as integrates the service with the iPhone 6 and iWatch.
Financial institutions — card issuers and networks — prefer token technology because it replaces primary account numbers, those 16-digit card numbers on the front of credit and debit cards. Instead, the tokenization technology uses complex codes that are easily transmittable over the air and between devices, but that are used only once, so even if they are intercepted, are of no use to fraudsters.

Android Security Is Under Fire--Again

Android security

NEWS ANALYSIS: A pair of new reports takes aim at Android security, but there are steps users can take and the sky isn't falling.

Another day and yet another set of reports alleging insecurity in the Android mobile operating system. This week, not one, but two reports came out detailing security risks in Android.
One of the reports, issued by security vendor FireEye on Aug. 20, deals with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security, or lack thereof, in Android apps.
The FireEye researchers found that approximately 68 percent of the 1,000 most downloaded free applications available in the Google Play store have some form of SSL-related security risk.
Among the issues that FireEye uncovered is the fact that across apps that claim to be using SSL, approximately 73 percent did not actually check the SSL certificates for authenticity. FireEye also found that 8 percent of apps did not actually check the hostname on the certificate. The way that SSL works, a certificate should be issued for a specific hostname to be valid.

Nowhere is this quest for IT smoothness more important than in data centers, where virtually all cloud and enterprise systems are housed.

iPhone 6, iWatch and Other Apple News Due to Emerge at Sept. 9 Even

The hype surrounding the Sept. 9 iPhone 6 event has hit a fever pitch. Unlike previous years, Apple has decided to hold just a few big product introductions in 2014. And aside from the Worldwide Developers Conference, where it typically announces software improvements, Apple will rely on lower-profile news updates revealed in press releases rather than make big splashes at major press events. The move has only increased the hype surrounding

Microsoft Revamps MSN for 'Mobile-First, Cloud-First' Era

Microsoft

Microsoft rebuilds its portal with a focus on premium content, personalized experiences and access to Microsoft's other services.

The Web portal wars may have taken a backseat to social media, the mobile Internet and the cloud, but MSN still matters to Microsoft.
The Redmond, Wash.-based software company is readying a customizable MSN.com homepage, currently viewable at preview.msn.com, announced Brian MacDonald, corporate vice president of Information and Content Experiences at Microsoft, in a Sept. 7 statement. Visual updates aside, MSN was rebuilt "from the ground up for a mobile-first, cloud-first world," he said, echoing the oft-repeated phrase that encapsulates Microsoft's latest corporate strategy.

How to sort your Facebook feed by time on mobile

Weddings. Job promotions. News articles. Facebook thinks it knows what the best stories are to drop in your news feed. But some users might want to see things their own way.
As an alternative to its default filtering algorithm, Facebook provides a way to sort your friends' posts by chronology in its mobile apps. But some people say the process for doing so is not that awesome.
After a recent change to Facebook's app on iOS, a number of users say the company has essentially buried the sort-by-time feature. Taking to online discussion boards to complain, they also lament the fact that there is no way to set the mode as a default on mobile.
Facebook's algorithm sorts posts that appear in people's news feeds, using signals such as the number of likes the posts generate and who posted them. As a result, posts that generate a lot of activity can stay lodged toward the top of users' feeds, maybe even over the course of a day. Facebook calls this default setting "top stories."
For users opting for a chronological view of their posts, there is an easy way

(Apna Downloader) - AT&T Inc (T.N) on Monday said Spain's Telefonica SA (TEF.MC) will license its home security technology for limited trials in Europe as the U.S. carrier hopes it has found a new way to profit from its nascent connected-home business.
Telefonica will offer European customers a version of Digital Life, AT&T's home monitoring and automation system, for three to six months before evaluating results of the trial, said Steven Bartholomew, a Telefonica spokesman.

Alibaba talks corporate governance to potential IPO investors

(Apna Downloader) - Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (IPO-BABA.N) founder Jack Ma on Monday surprised potential investors at a standing-room only event in New York by addressing governance concerns over the Chinese e-commerce giant, including a controversial 2010 spin-off of its online payment service.
Ma made the remarks at a luncheon at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York in front of hundreds of hedge funds, mutual funds and other institutional investors, as the company kicked off a two-week, multi-city marketing blitz for its initial public offering.
Alibaba was expecting about 500 investors to attend the first stop on the roadshow, but some 800 showed up, forcing some into overflow rooms.
Alibaba is seeking to raise more than $21 billion in the largest-ever U.S. technology IPO, valuing the company at up to $163 billion.

Tech London Advocates calls on Apple to join its mission

Tech London Advocates (TLA) has called on Apple to join its private-sector led advocacy group along with the likes of Facebook, Google, Amazon and Cisco.

The Cupertino-headquartered firm is one of the last remaining technology giants to have an employee in the TLA cohort, according to TLA founder and CEO Russ Shaw.
“We’ve got the big telcos represented and lots of folks from Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Amazon and Cisco,” he said. “I would love somebody from Apple in the group.
One unknown Apple employee did join TLA only to be told by Apple that they couldn't be part of the initiative, said Shaw.

Will bitcoin's creator be unmasked for $12,000?

The latest claim of knowledge of the true identity of bitcoin's creator is being viewed with suspicion.
The virtual currency system, which has seen growing adoption by merchants, was developed by someone using the pseudonym "Satoshi Nakamoto."
The developer, who left few digital trails, is still believed to be unknown. Newsweek claimed in a March 6 cover story that the revered programmer was Dorian Nakamoto, a Japanese-American man with a technology background.
Dorian Nakamoto fiercely denied the story, arguing that the Newsweek reporter misunderstood a brief conversation they had on the doorstep of his California home.
On Monday, someone posted a note on Pastebin, stating that documents revealing Satoshi's real identity will be released in exchange for 25 bitcoins. So far, the bitcoin address supplied for donations is far shy of its goal.
"And no, this is not a scam, you can see the below screenshots for proof of inbox ownership and a little teaser," the anonymous person claimed. The URLs for the screenshots were not working at one point Monday evening.
